New 2026 Honda Insight hybrid MPG, Reviews, Price  –  A strange tiny hybrid vehicle was introduced by Honda some decades ago. It was two-seater, manual-transmission, and had a paint color that made one think of stuffy noses. Strange skirts that wrapped around the rear wheels were also a feature of the vehicle. Not surprisingly, the brand’s modest product sales were disappointing.

Exterior and Interior

More problematic than the electricity itself is the method of delivery of the power that the continuously variable transmission (CVT) provides. As the revolutions per minute (rpm) increase, stabilize, and then decrease, the engine makes an audible noise reminiscent of a zombie flick. In the past, hybrids’ braking has been noticeably more grabby than that of conventional vehicles since a large portion of the battery’s regeneration power comes from the kinetic energy recovered by the braking system. This is due to the fact that hybrids outperform their traditional counterparts in terms of fuel efficiency. Furthermore, for an automobile with such an emphasis on efficiency, the handling is surprisingly good. In contrast to tires with low rolling resistance, the vehicle’s basic Continental tires offer sufficient traction without squawking at the first provocation on a turn. Neither the suspension nor the steering feel are as firm as those of a sports sedan. But this is irrelevant because Continental tires are on the car.

Our Insight had the Touring trim level, which differs from the base model with chrome highlights and a plusher interior layout. In terms of technical components and safety features, it is similar to the Touring trim, and it already comes with most of the extras that buyers demand. It has most of the desirable accessories already installed. We would have preferred it if the Insight had a wireless phone charger as standard equipment across all trim levels, but alas, it is not.

Engine and Performance

The total power output of 107 horsepower is hardly audible in a modern sedan, especially considering that minivans are nearly able to produce 300 horsepower. After accounting for the battery-powered hybrid engine, the total output remains at a meager 151 horsepower.

Despite an increase of 197 pound-feet of torque from zero to three thousand revolutions per minute, the Insight still seems like it’s trying too hard to get through sludge when driven on a daily basis. This makes it look like it’s having trouble navigating the slime. The official numbers for consumption in the city are 4.6 liters per 100 kilometres, while those for the highway are 5.3 liters per 100 kilometres, and the total figures come to 4.9 liters per 100 kilometres. We averaged 4.9 liters of regular-grade fuel per hundred kilometers throughout our typical weekly commute, which included driving on both city streets and highways as well as rural roads. Automatic high beam management, adaptive cruise control with autonomous braking, lane-keeping assist, active road departure and collision avoidance technologies, and Honda’s outstanding active safety package are all included on every Insight. Any Insight you buy will come equipped with all of these capabilities. It seemed like the autonomous cruise control was a little too cautious for our liking; it took a long time to determine that we could safely speed once the lane ahead of us was clear.  The length of time it took was deemed the reason for this. Similarly, the lane-keeping assist in the vehicle we tested was rather active, and it had a little but constant disagreement with the driver over which way to move the wheel. With a quoted price of $32,490 for the most costly Touring trim level, the Insight is priced far lower than its direct rivals. A sport utility vehicle is the intended purpose of the Insight’s design. The Insight is significantly more costly than a Civic sedan with same features, just to give you an idea of the price difference. The Insight also outperforms the Civic sedan in terms of combined fuel efficiency, which is around 2.2 liters per hundred miles better. Assuming the client drives an average of 20,000 kilometers per year in their Insight, it would take over six years before they start making a profit on their purchase. The hybrid technology that is built into the Insight would be most useful for drivers who either go a long way or do a lot of stop-and-go traffic.
