New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign, Dimensions, Interior – The idea that you’d need a second car that runs on gasoline to cover longer distances is a prevalent criticism leveled against electric vehicles (EVs). This is happening despite the fact that EVs are becoming increasingly common in city streets.
But that’s not the case if you go with the 2026 Honda Clarity, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with a comfortable hybrid drive system based on an internal combustion engine that makes driving on the highway a breeze and a generous range of 76 kilometers on electric power alone. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign and Update Plan
Exterior and Interior
The Clarity is no different from any other eco-friendly vehicle in that it prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency over aesthetic flourishes. It looks like a green machine because to its long overhangs, sleek fastback shape (it’s actually a sedan), and partial rear fender skirts. This is a major contributing factor to its characteristic. To make the Clarity look more like a family car, designers took inspiration from the Accord and Civic sedans; yet, the entire style isn’t cohesive.
According to Dan Ilika of AutoTrader.ca, who used the description “awkward proportions and design elements that are trying too hard to be futuristic,” the Clarity is one of five cars that are now available and regarded as somewhat ugly. Despite the fact that it is clearly something that demands some level of perceptional compliance, I do not think it deserves such harsh criticism. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign
New 2026 Honda Clarity Specs
A plethora of driver-assistance features are standard on the Honda Clarity, including dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-speaker audio system controlled by an eight-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, automatic LED headlights, automatic windshield wipers, and a proximity key with push-button start. As an extra $4,000, you can choose the Touring package, which includes perforated leather upholstery instead of cloth, a leather-covered steering wheel, satellite navigation, and high-definition radio, among other things.
Sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and power seat adjustment are not listed as available options. It is crucial to highlight this absence. With the exception of the cheaper Prius Prime Upgrade trim, which has faux-leather upholstery and without any other features, even that model comes with a heated steering wheel. The reason behind this is that the package includes a warmer steering wheel. So, in this specific category, the Clarity is clearly the winner. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign
Engine and Performance
A gasoline engine measuring 1.5 liters in capacity and producing 103 horsepower powers the Clarity. There is a total of 212 horsepower because it also has an electric motor that generates 181 horsepower. A continuously variable gearbox (CVT) is an automatic systemthat is responsible for transferring power from the engine to the front wheels of cars. Between 0 and 100 km/h, when operating in hybrid mode, the Clarity takes around nine seconds. When it’s running on electricity, though, it takes about thirteen seconds, while the Clarity just takes about nine.
The Clarity’s outstanding 232 pound-feet of instant electric torque is the vehicle’s most striking attribute when cruising around town. Thanks to its torque, the Clarity can keep up a rather quick reaction off the line no matter what you set it to. When switched to electric vehicle mode, the Clarity feels much more powerful than the same sized and considerably less powerful plug-in hybrid electric car (PHEV) Toyota Prius Prime. Although the Clarity isn’t exactly lightning fast, it manages to avoid harming the environment none the less.
To be expected, the noise levels while driving a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) change depending on the driving mode. When the Clarity is in electric vehicle mode, the cabin is remarkably silent. While the car is running on a partially charged battery, the hybrid mode will add a subtle engine noise that the driver will hardly detect. In certain situations, such when the battery is completely dead, when the car is speeding up, or when it’s climbing steep freeway inclines, this droning could become rather noticeable. New 2026 Honda Clarity Fuel Economy
While operating in electric vehicle mode, the Honda Clarity consumes 2.1 liters equivalent every hundred kilometers, according to official estimates regarding fuel efficiency. The vehicle’s fuel consumption while running in hybrid mode is 5.3, 5.9, and 5.6 liters per hundred kilometers. When the car is in electric vehicle mode, a 17 kWh lithium-ion battery is said to have a range of 76 kilometers. But that number jumps to 547 kilometers when you turn on the gas engine. The battery should be fully charged in about 2.5 hours using a Level 2 charger, which uses 240 volts. It will take around 12 hours to charge the battery using a Level 1 charger, which operates at 120 volts.
The battery was completely charged when I got behind the wheel of the Clarity, and it had shown an average fuel consumption of 4.4 liters per hundred kilometers during the 500 kilometers prior. I managed to get 75 kilometers of driving done in two days of errand running, including two excursions to different cities, and I was still within the claimed 25 percent of battery life. Two trips to neighboring towns had also been finished by me. I decided to try out the charging times at the free Level 2 charging station while I was out doing my weekly food shopping. It was my intention to time the battery charging process. The real charging time is probably closer to three hours, given that the battery was charged for forty-five minutes. After the charge was finished, the battery was recharged to 50%. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign
A comparison of the two vehicles’ official ranges reveals that the Clarity has a far larger capacity (76 kilometers) than the Prius Prime (40 kilometers). That is especially true when considering that I far outstripped the Clarity’s stated range and fell short of the Toyota’s stated range. I would have saved money on gas if I hadn’t gone to the hassle of manually shifting into hybrid mode during a pandemic; I would have driven much less. With the Clarity, I can easily cover long miles without stopping for gas, which is especially helpful considering how little driving I would have done during the pandemic. To make relevant observations about fuel use in real-world situations, I did not consume a substantial amount of gasoline. The Clarity’s success as a fully electric vehicle is eventually demonstrated by this. In spite of this, I managed to keep my gas consumption well under control.
New 2026 Honda Clarity Safety Features
The Clarity Touring is equipped with a plethora of active safety features, such as a forward collision warning system, automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, and Honda’s LaneWatch blind-spot display. All of these features come as standard on the car. Incorporating all of these safety features into the Honda Clarity Touring as standard equipment further establishes Honda as a brand that values safety. That last function let me spot parked bikes in city bike lanes, which was a huge help when I needed to turn right. However, a sensor-based blind-spot monitoring system will replace the current camera-based system, according to the company.
Neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS have tested the Clarity for its crashworthiness or its headlight functionality in the US. This is because the Clarity is designed for models with low manufacturing volumes. Still, it’s not alone; neither of these organizations has examined a single vehicle from Porsche, Jaguar, or Land Rover. Other groups have also taken this step. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign
New 2026 Honda Clarity Price and Release Date
Compared to the Hyundai Ioniq PHEV ($32,649-$38,249) and the Toyota Prius Prime ($33,550-$38,700), the Honda Clarity is priced much higher at $44,505 for the base model and $48,505 for my Touring trim tester (not including the $1,700 freight charge and taxes). One such hybrid electric vehicle is the Honda Clarity. Having said that, the Honda Clarity offers a far greater electric range and a more premium overall experience than both of these important rivals.
Along with the value equation, the federal government offers a purchasing incentive for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). This incentive’s value may be anything from $2,500 to $5,000, all dependent on the details of the transaction. Depending on your location, you can get a government incentive anywhere from $4,000 to $8,000 in Quebec and $1,000 to $1,500 in British Columbia. Along with the aforementioned, these incentives are also being offered. New 2026 Honda Clarity Redesign
