Exterior and Interior

Outside, the New 2026 Honda Pilot is more rugged than ever, yet inside, you’ll find a plethora of modern conveniences. The most costly of the three models, the Black Edition, stands out with its plush upholstery and expertly crafted ornamentation. The most expensive versions will also include an unusual eight-seat layout, with a detachable middle seat in the back that fits neatly into its own storage space in the trunk. But at about 14 kilos (31 pounds), it is far from light.

The inside is, generally speaking, quite well-organized. A- and C-type USB ports, as well as numerous pockets and cubbies, are included. It also has cup holders. While Honda’s infotainment systems have taken heat in the past, the latest models include both touchscreen and tactile buttons for user control. Along with the usual quickness and smoothness of the engine, the new 10-speed automatic gearbox is also worthy of appreciation. It can downshift four speeds simultaneously and has a lower first gear than the old one, both of which help the pilot start going faster. When it comes to powertrains, the gearbox is king. Engine and Performance

Honda brought us to Sedona, Arizona’s Broken Arrow Trail so we could test drive the new TrailSport and see how well it performed. The new TrailSport has Honda’s full confidence in its skills. Among the many features that distinguish this specific model of the New 2026 Pilot from the others are an extra 25 millimeters (one inch) of ground clearance, all-terrain tires, a full-size spare tire, and skid plates to safeguard the drivetrain and fuel tank.

These features are complement to the TrailSport’s revised suspension, fine-tuned stabilizer bars, and enhanced all-wheel drive system, which allow it to navigate difficult off-road conditions where traction is limited, such as when one wheel is airborne. With a forward-facing camera, not only can drivers see more clearly what’s ahead, but they can also use the camera to avoid obstacles that could be dangerous.  New 2026 Honda Pilot Redesign

The TrailSport shocked the Jeep and off-road vehicle drivers by outperforming their vehicles on the route and even keeping pace with a few of them. The skid plates were also useful in some of the more difficult sections, however they make a noise like to nails being hammered on a blackboard when they scrape against the rocks.

Even though the Pilot’s all-wheel drive system is fully automatic and hence outside the control of the driver, it is equipped with a few innovative tactics to cut fuel consumption. Most of the time, the Pilot keeps the vehicle in front-wheel drive to save gas. However, when the vehicle accelerates or corners, the power is automatically transferred to the other wheels. As a means of keeping revs low, the selectable “eco mode” dampens the throttle feel and accelerates through the gears more rapidly than normal. More so, at moderate speeds (around town or on the highway), the six-cylinder engine can get by with just four pistons.

The results are fuel consumption rates of 12.4 liters per hundred kilometers in the city, 9.3 liters per hundred kilometers on the highway, and 11.0 liters per hundred kilometers at the combined level, according to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Versions with a six-speed gearbox, on the other hand, perform marginally worse, with 13.0 mpg in the city, 9.3 mpg on the highway, and 11.3 mpg overall. Regardless, it’s still on par with rivals that rely solely on gasoline, including the Hyundai Palisade and the Chevrolet Traverse, but it’s light years behind the incredibly fuel-efficient Toyota Highlander Hybrid.

All told, the odometer racked up roughly 600 kilometers throughout the week-long testing session. The driver took the car on a number of different routes, including city streets, side roads, and even a few interstate drives. The Pilot is no different from any other Honda in that it comes standard with a plethora of state-of-the-art safety measures. An easier way to align with a trailer is one of several unique viewpoints on what’s happening behind the Pilot. Neither the base Black Edition nor the top-tier Touring come standard with a surround-view monitor system, which is really disappointing given the width of this SUV. A head-up display is also not an option with this particular model. Moderner versions, such the Palisade and the Highlander, have both of these amenities standard, therefore the Pilot must be quite old to not have them.

Despite this, every version comes included with a long range of advanced safety technology, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and forward automated emergency braking. Also, all models except the base ones have blind-spot detection, and most systems work well with minimal interference. But this is a perfect example of why Honda’s front collision warning has a lengthy history of being overly sensitive. The Pilot has an air of sophistication when traversing open terrain. It should be easy to carpool, go grocery shopping, and do road vacations because the suspension is not too stiff or busy. There is a new variable-ratio steering gear on the three-row vehicle, and it can seem a little shaky at times and sometimes requires adjustments mid-turn.

The base Sport variant of the Pilot is asking an outrageous $52,600, and it doesn’t even include the $1,950 freight cost that isn’t up for discussion. Despite being more luxurious, aesthetically pleasing, and capable than the car in question, this is nonetheless the case. Even when compared to two entry-level SUVs, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Subaru Ascent, this is vastly more costly. The attractive TrailSport trim can be yours for $59,400 (not including shipping).
